Huffman code

I’ve been thinking about posting stuff to github, and the first thing I wanted to write was a huffman code utility. I’m not sure anyone would use this, since other forms of compression are definitively better. There used to be such a utility, but I guess it was so irrelevant that it fell completely out of use. On the other hand, I don’t see the harm…

I’m mostly finished with it, but still writing test cases.

What is next on the agenda for me is: Error Correcting Codes. I was actually pretty busy so I couldn’t get started on this, but I’m ready to get started on it now. I have a pretty solid background in the theory of error-correcting codes, so this should be doable for me, but requiring some review.

The usefulness of it? I’m not sure yet, but I’m thinking about it.

Might as well do this while social distancing is in effect, and I can’t go out to a show or for dinner. Why not implement some error-correcting codes?
